Hi. I tried a mix i saw on a post in a different section. 100g Oats + 2 Scoops of protein + 200ml of water.

I have to say, i couldn't swallow without heaving. I think it was because it was REALLY thick. Does it matter if i increase the amount of water with the mix? I wasn't actually able to drink the shake, i had to swallow it a mouthful at a time.

Sorry if it seems stupid to ask if i can add more water, as it has no calories but i wondered if there was a reason for keeping the amount of water mixed with it to a minimum. Thanks

Dude you need to get a hand blender otherwise it is really thick and hard to deal with, as you have found out. In mine I have about 80g oats, 2 scoops protein and 200ml water. You can get hand blenders for a bout a £5 from sainsbury's budget range. I paid about £15 for a decent one from Robert dyas.

Lol, sorry forgot to mention that i DID blend it! Sorry for the lack on information. I found even though i blended it i still found it really thick. Maybe i am just strange, i do overly chew my food (some people i know bite their food once and swallow) until it's a fine paste..

Is it a problem if i add more water? I ended up adding so much water that it practically filled my mixing cup!

Oh ok, well if you are blending already you're just gonna have to fill that cup up.

Just an idea, but my blender has like a chopping attachment in its own bowl thing (so descriptive!) that is used for herbs I think, anyway I normally put my oats in this dry and pre chop loads of oats to a powder and keep them in a jar, then first thing in the morning I can just and the protein and powdered oats to my shaker and no need to blend.

i remember when i first tried it, i blended to oats and everything and then poured it in the glass, all the liquid came our first and i ended up gagging on the big lump of oats that hit the back of my throat!!, i just drink em straight from the bowl now without blending them just 100g oats 60g of whey and enough water to make it drinkable

Ha, if only i could do that, was actually nearly sick this morning!

I think doing what bozatron does is the best idea, to be honest the oats don't get blended as much as if they were done on there own. What model is your one bozatron and where did you get it from? Thanks

Whoops i went out and bought the same blender as bozatron before you posted Gaz. I haven't tried one of the shakes by it yet, but it certainly has blended the oats down to a powder! I've made lots of 100g bags of oats up and stored them in a container.

bozatron; i read a different thread of yours where you said you make up two shakes in the morning. Is it ok to mix the shake with water etc and leave it for the whole day? I thought i read somewhere that you have to drink the protein shakes as soon as you've mixed them, this may be my terrible memory at play though! Thanks

If you are mixing with water it is ok to mix it in the morning and store it. This is what I used to do when I first started my full diet. Now because I blend the oats dry to a powder I just take a dry mix of oats and protein powder to work,to mix just before I take it.

when i was a young lad trying to put weight on to join the army i used to ad a whole raw egg to my shake. noy that was hard graft. work out was childs play compaired to that. give it a go and oats will seem like an easy option. when your starting any new diet its hard to begin but time goes but and you begin to enjoy it. i never used to like tuna, in fact theres probaly a huge post by my old name Deano waffleing on about how i hated the stuff. know i look 4ward to it.

My post morning workout drink is 60gm protein and 80gm oats, in a blender, and its full ! I love it, its easy to consume and takes care of breakfast!
The amount of water doesn't make any difference, if its too thick add more, it just prolongs the pleasure of drinking it !

I tell you what you could try, soak your oats overnight in your shaker cup with water or milk, then when you go round to drink it just add your powder and the oats wont be as thick then, trust me.
