Think thats a bit of an old wifes tale mate!

Doing that will not take ANY of the stress of your shoulder joint when working out in the gym.

Welcome to the site BB, if your sgoulder is giving you pain lay off upright rowing, seated pulldowns to the back of the neck and press behind the neck as these can all lead to shoulder problems

Bigben - is the clicking actually in your shoulder joint - or is it in the clavical/rib joint?

Yeah ive had the same problem - its to do with tightness in the rear trap area and other back muscles that are pulling your clavical (collar bone) and top rib joint too tightly together and restricting movement - will feel like a snapping/clicking pain. You need to deep tissue physio work mate - had the same prob myself - scrap the exercises and c a physio...

Regarding stopping training - I would just try and work around it - but it all depends on the severity of it. Get youself booked in witha good sports physion asap! As for you nerve that may be a separate issue - u need to get a consultation mate - You need to be seen in person to accurately diagnose...

I have suffered many shoulder problems because of weights and impact scrums/tackles in rugby.  There are many problems experieced with shoulders so much going on in that area and the very best advice has been given

Get youself booked in witha good sports physion asap

I once had some clicking and a dull pain in my right shoulder but not i think in the same area as you , and went to a physio friend of mine , he stated on some occasions tendons can get pushed/pulled put of place and result in a clicking sound as they go back. I was advised to do some rotation exercises that help straighten everything out before training.

The exercises was touch your shoulder with your hand, then raise the elbow up straight in front of you
level with shoulder. Then circulate in small cirles clockwise and anti clockwise, this puts everything back in place.

It actually worked for me but i did work around the injury for a while and did not do any exercise where i felt pain. After a few weeks i restarted and was fine
i still do rotations as a warm up before i lift and have not experienced further problems.
