just got a book for christmas called mens fitness, it's all different excersises and diet plans etc... in this book it recommends circuit training along with weight training. I have been considering this and just wondered if people thought circuit training on a bike would be worth wile or does it only really work for excersises such as running or rowing were more of the body is involved?

thanks and merry christmas

what do u mean by circuit training on a bike..??

Circuit training is basic strength training and run similar to what iv written below;

15 press-ups
rest 30sec
15 sit-ups
rest 30sec
15 star jumps
rest 30 secs
15 squat jumps
rest 1min

Then repeat maybe 2 3 or 4 times....

circut trainingis great for over all fitness. its the mose affective and widely used method for building speed,stamnar and over all fitness by the armed forces. but i dont think its is a great ad to body building doode. you hart rate will be well over what is deemed as optimen of burning fat. you will use much needed cals and your not really BUILDING musle more over stressing it. dont get me wrong its an awsome way to keep fit healthy and in good shape but you wont get huge doing squat thrusts and 10m sprints!!

i didn't intend on getting huge by riding my bike alot. i intend to get fit (er) and lower my body fat percentage as much and as quickly as i can. i've been following an excersise plan       http://www.iwantsixpackabs.com/my_video_tips/interval_training.html
the link takes you to some information about interval training (got confused with circuit training) and somewhere else on the website their is an acctual plan

I used to cycle race from aged 13 - 19 years old. Interval training is no doubt the hardest way to train. After I did intervals I felt like puking up. I used to do them on a track/velodrome in Wolverhampton. This type of training was to improve my sprinting ability / short bursts of intensity.

You trying to reduce your overall body-fat % right..???

I would recommend sticking to general cardio workouts the longer the session the more calories you will burn. Most guys on here trying to get cut are doing 30min x 5 times a week... So judge for yourself what you need... Set some realistic goals to achieve along the way.... If you really want to burn loads of calories do 60min session on your bike, the harder you train the more recovery time you will need - so take this into account as it will stop you training eg:

If you did intervals on a Monday, you would need Tues and Wed & even possibly Thurs to recovery... Remember interval training on a bike is somewhat like doing weights, you are breaking down the muscle tissue & it needs a good time to repair itself before you good to go again.

You could do;
Monday - 60min medium intensity (approx 150-160 bpm heart rate ie steadyish - not producing lactate acid)
Tues - As above
Wed - Rest
Thurs - As Monday & Tues
Friday - Intervals
Sat - Rest
Sun - Rest

If you into your biking thats great Sponge because you can spend a lot more time out on it, I used to be out for 4 - 6hrs on a weekend and 2-3hrs on week day nights..... These days im bored as a brick after 20min on a crosstrainer or treadmill...

Reduce your CARBS - Train sensibly - YOU WILL REDUCE YOUR BODY FAT...! It does take some time tho, so set yourself goals to work to...!

Good advice from andy.

I've seen plenty of website's where they give a plan on how to get a 6 pack and there so full of rubbish. Stuff like andy says will get you in shape.

Doing this is plain and simple.. set cardio and weigths etc and with your diet in track you will notice a change.. but forget it if your diet isnt good. making a change is down to 70% diet rest workout.

All the advice you will ever need is from here. i read men and muscle/ mens fittness mags.. like them but geez there workout plans and diets are lolz
