A read an article somewhere about going one day without protein so that when you start to eat protein again your body will store it permanently as muscle.
It suggests eating fruit for the day without protein and then eat regular high protein meals for the next few days. And also to train very hard and heavy with compound exercises. It also mentions adding a carb deprevation day just before restricting your protein for better results.
Has anyone ever tried this method and if so what were the results? |

Forget all that rubbish - even if that WERE true - no protein for 24 hours your body would be catabolic and lose muscle. Protein doesnt work like carbs do you cant protein deplete then load! |

from the opposite side of thinking, how would it effect the body if you keep your protein high but missed out your carbs for a whole day?? |

again you could go catabolic. Your body requires blood sugar hence would be forced to metabolise proteins into blood glucose - thus your protein would not be feeding your muscles. This is also very taxing on your body and is stressfull on your liver and kidneys. |

This sounds like a scaled down version of that "Dr. Atkins Diet"! |

Thanks for posting the link. Personally.. i dont agree with it.. You see.. a diet is created for a person with low confidence to have something to hold onto..a plan that if they stick to it..things would change because they need the reasurance things will be better afterwards. problem is.. no one really shows the benfit of just do what we do diet/workout wise..you dont have to be a hardcore brute but the lifestyle we live by is healthy living. PS.. Want to buy a virus to send to that guys website |

There are different diets printed every week, mainly in Womens mags, which all claim to be "the one" that will work. As bodybuilders its our business to know how to provide nutrition to both grow and keep bf as low as is needed dependant on if its comp' time or not. We know what protein does, how much we need and what carbs and fats we need, but has any one tried telling a woman who has just read the latest diet that? Proof is in the pudding, we look good, keep in shape, don't carry much fat and we do that by using the common sense approach. My partner reads these mags, and tries to follow some of the diets printed. It rarely lasts more than a week as its "not working". Will she listen to me about what she should be doing? No. Because I think the argument is "but I don't want to look like you" !! Bloody hell! how likely is that???, but to get the weight off and stay fit I know what I am doing, and we all know that she wouldn't turn into Arnold by eating a sensible diet. Ignorance is bliss I suppose.
Ok, rant over....lol.
And before tha ladies of the site jump down my throat this is a generalisation, ladies who are on here I have respect and time for. And they know what to do, and do it looking at the evidence I have seen.

To be honest I thought that was an interesting read. Whether it will work as the guy describes is another matter. I really dont know...
Does anybody fancy testing the water and being a "guinea pig" and keeping a journal on this......??? |

Why dont you go for it Andy?
Best thing is to stick with whats tried and tested. Your body doesnt store protein like it does glycogen. Storing protein means muscle anabolism - ie the building of new muscle. This isnt just down to protein - there has to be a stimulus from training too. So in that case, how about if i followed this diet while i had a week of training - would i suddenly sprout new muscle?
Intense training + sufficient protein and cals + rest = NEW MUSCLE thats the basic formula forget all these crazy diets..... |
