I just had arthoscopic surgery 6 months ago on my left shoulder to repair a lesion to my supraspinatus tendon and a slight detachment of my bicep tendon (SLAP). Now I am back in the gym, going light, but find that I am having problems with my right shoulder!!!  Nothing like the left, but I am afraid that I will screw something up again. Last time much of the damage was due to cortisone injections given to me by a doctor. I really do not want to go and have cortisone injected into my right shoulder for fear of worsening whatever damage I may have. Any suggestions? Should I stay away from the gym? Away from shoulder/chest routines? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Take it easy.. i suffer from shoulder problems my self.

You can get away with not doing shoulders because you work your shoulders in other exercises. Try going swimming once a week which will do them good.. make sure your stretching and generally take it easy and see how it goes.. could see a physio to help get them working properly.

Thanks for the reply. So I should definitely avoid cortisone, correct? I know it damages connective tissue and is generally a bad idea. My own experience with it was pretty lousy. I am scheduled to have an echo done on my shoulder on the 25th of this month and then I will see a doc to see how bad the damage might be. I will re-post/PM you and let you know. Thank you very much.

One of the instructors in my gym has an achilles tendon problem; it had snapped and he has had it re-connected by surgery. He is a marathon runner and simply refuses point blank to have any cortisone injection. He says that in the long run, {no pun about marathons!  } it will do more damage than the tendon already has.
