Hi guys,

Just spent a few mins looks around at some recent posts and seems a good forum here.

My question is this, im not exactly trying to be a body builder... im trying to become more competetive. Ive just recovered from a reoccuring ankle injury, so im abit on the chubbier side than id like.

I have a fairly layed back workout routine:

Chest, shoulders, Triceps

Inline bench press  4 sets.
Hammer Dumbell press 3 sets
Peck deck 3 sets
Shoulder press 4 sets
Dumbell side 2 sets & Dumbell front 2 sets
Tricep push downs 3 sets
bar extension 3 sets

Legs

Thigh extension 3 sets.
Hamstring curl 3 sets
Calf raises 3 sets

Back, Biceps

Lap Pulldown 3 sets
Seated Row 3 sets.
Dumbell Curls 3 sets
Concentration curls 3 sets
Standing barbell curls 3 sets

My question is this. Im trying to do alot of cardio at the same time as training, im currently doing around 15-20 mins cross trainer, 15-20 mins bike and 15-20 mins treadmill, before my workout.

Will doing cardio affect my muscle growth and should i split up cardio from weight training? Because at the moment i feel im coping well with both but as a noobie i just want to make sure im not wasting my time.

Another question is this: Ive always had some stubburn fat near my stomach area (hence the cardio) does anyone have any good ab routines which will really help me out?

Thanks in advance.

Hi asje1, yeah your right it's a cracking little forum. my advice would be to do your cardio at the end of your workout when your body is tired from lifting, that way you will burn a lot more fat. Cardio beforehand knackers you out before you have even picked a weight up. warmup-weights-cardio. cardio would be even better firtst thing in the morning on a empty stomach if you can do that. you cannot target one area to remove fat it's the whole body! sadly its not that easy. as your bodyfat comes down the stubborn areas will dissapear. i got sent a email from another forum for a abs workout a couple of years back, its from the american bodybuilding.com and its brilliant. ill try and see if i still have it and link it  on to a post on here. its better if i do that than just writing it because the email explains it and shows moving diagrams.

Do cardio after your weight workout..
Only do cardio before on a leg day

Doing cardio wont effect your muscle growth unless  your training with no protein in your system.. hence why you take a pre protein shake
