Really struggling to put size on my triceps, been training for about a year and a half (properly about a year) and everything is growing accordingly. When tensed my tricep looks ok, very defined (triangle) but there is just just no size, from behind it looks like my arm is the same size as my forearm...anybody else had trouble with tri's?
I've tried a few approaches, training them on a superset day with bi's, on a non superset day with bi's, after chest and after shoulders, nothing seems to work!
I usually do 3 sets of skullcrushers, 3 sets of cable or rope pushdowns and either 3 sets of one arm extensions or kickbacks.
help would be appreciated

Do you get a good contraction in your triceps when you are training them?

try some close grip bench presses in there after u trained your chest mate. about inside of shoulder width grip. not to close as it stresses your wrists. this should add thickness. it has done for me anyway and ive never bothered with the little movements. if you only been training about a year try and add mass firsts and the little exersises you can add on if you ever deicide u wanna diet down. also sounds like you are be overtraining them. if your hitting them on chest day and then again after your biceps. the triceps get a good workout off chest and shoulders etc. i would train them once a week after chest  for a few sets

i wasnt overtraining them i meant i've been training them after chest for a while, then switched to after shoulders for a few weeks etc
pj - when doing pushdowns the contractions nice but can only feel it on skullcrushers if i go lighter for more reps, 12-15

Try doing weighted and non weighted dips I find I get the best results from doing them alongside close grip bench presses

jase.

yep i would concentrate on the heavy compounds like close grip bp and weighted dips. thicken them up first before the little exersises. my triceps never got any power in them untill i scrapped the little extensions and other small  excersises and started the close grip bench presses and dips

Chris to be honest your chosen exercise r pretty good. If you are not getting a good contraction in your triceps then that is a good sign that you are not quite working your triceps correctly. Try using a light weight - really slowing the speen of your reps down until your triceps are in complete control of the weight rather than any momentum. Then focus on the squeeze of the muscle. Once you master that then gradually think about increasing your poundages.

Hope that helps

It's also worth mentioning that your arms don't really grow just on there own in isolation. I get if you put a couple of stone on and the rest of you body grows, your arms will too.

My upper arms are 18" pumped and 17.5 cold but that size only comes with a a few years and a few million calories I'd love 20" guns someday

your exercises are good uns

Get eating mate

close grip bp, scullcrushers heavy as f**k. if onearm is growing more than the other its more likely your over training the smaller of the two than under training it.
