You shouldn't be lifting any heavy weights if its your first visit to the gym all you should be doing is learning to perform the execises correctly besides it's not about how heavy you can lift thats just ego tripping.
As for your aches to be honest if you are training correctly you should always ache for a couple of days after training although it does get easier yes you should go tomorrow but don't do anything heavy, everyone goes through this stage its the ones who stick with it who grow and become bodybuilding champions.
Hope this has helped.

you always need protein just to maintain muscle, try getting it from solid food as well as liquids, 3 protein drinks aday plus chicken, fish etc should help you and don't forget it can take a couple of months to see real improvement in muscle size, tho after a few weeks you should start to see a difference in muscle shape and hardness.

Its not the amount of weight you lift its what you do with it!

You may see a guy in the gym with an impressive bench press lift and a crap chest becouse ALL he is concentrating on is the weight and not form!

What is light for some is heavy for others so it doest matter how much you lift.

Forget who is lifting whatever in gym and concentrate on yourself... that is why you are in the gym buddy... for you!  8)

Bigkeiko is correct,

the weight is just a meanst o an end, it should be enough to tax you, but allow you to perform the desired number of reps before you fail.
If you are doing too many reps increase the weight by small increments until the weight stops you at the desired number of reps. If its too light you will be doing too many reps, don't just stop because you hit a specific number!
