I slipped a disk in my lower back 2 years ago, which was corrected by physio. totally messed up my training, it happend again about six months ago. Only this time i have to get surgery to correct the problem. I'm worried that my weight training days are done for.
has any one got experience of this problem whoose had the surgery and returned to training + any advice about getting back into it?
cheers buzz

I would avoid surgery at all costs - what procedure do they intend on doing? If its the fusion dont do it. You just have to work around it! I would however seek to see stuart cosgrove from manchester he was dorian physio and is meant to be the biz!

not sure what procedure, seeing the consultant next week for results and next stages. My personal feelings is that they'll do a micro diskectomy, wihch is shaving the part of the disc which is trapped and pressing on the sciatic nerve.
Training around it is a definite no as the pain is unbearable. I also have what is called a list. which means that my spine is realinig it's self to take pressure off the nerve. basicly i look like quasi modo after a few pints.
I've had private physio treatment but it made it worse.

My girlfriend had this op done after a car accident, has some difficulty but not much and can still train, it will mainly prevent you from being able to do the following two exercises: bent-over rowing. dead lift, other than those she is fine ;D

Cheers Pj, Wingy. It's good to here that there's people out there who have gotten back in to training. Everybody i talk to are all doom and gloom. have me resigned to the life of a couch potato. I'm not a what i would call a serious bb eg, comps, supplements and total diet control, but i couldn't imagine never being able to get back into the gym. i've done it since the age of 15 and am clocking my 13th year minus injury time. cheers again.
